Training Camp Journal – Day 14

Trent Corney’s Training Camp Journal

June 11

We had the rookie talent show Friday night and I really appreciate Louie Richardson for organizing it. It was a lot of fun.

They said the rookie show wasn’t as good as other years, but I thought it was pretty fun. I got second place with my performance.

I did a scene from Zoolander. To get people in the right mood I ripped both my shirts off to get rid of some of the tension because at this point there had been a few bad performances. Everyone wasn’t as engaged, so I wanted to get everyone’s attention.

So then I told them I was going to do the Zoolander scene where he reaches in and attempts to pull out his boxer shorts without ripping them at all. It’s in that scene with Owen Wilson where Wilson’s character pulls out his underwear first and challenges Derek Zoolander.

Trent CorneyI came out and said I’ve been working on this for a long time and that I had finally mastered it. I tried to make them believe that I could actually do it. All of sudden I pulled on them as hard as I could, all the way up to my face and let out a big yell.

It was really stupid, but shocking. Everyone was just so surprised because it was so weird. I made a scene like I was in a lot of pain and then walked out.

We didn’t have a lot of time to prepare. I had a lot of other ideas, but it was going to take more time.

A group of some of the DBs and Shayon Green won. They did a bunch of lookalikes and made fun of a bunch of other guys on the team. They roasted them pretty good.

Some of the guys thought I should have won.

The funniest thing was Chad Rempel. He was hilarious. Every time someone would have a bad skit he would make fun of them. One of the guys was rapping and Rempel started rapping back at him and make fun of him. That was the funniest part of the night.

The biggest thing was the chance to bond with your teammates and it seemed like at practice it was already showing.

Defensive end Trent Corney was the Bombers first pick, 9th overall, in the 2016 CFL Draft. A product of Brockville, Ont., he played his college ball at the University of Virginia.

Bluebombers.com will chronicle Corney’s daily battles through training camp, from the highs on the field to the transition from the college to the pro game.
