Training Camp Journal – Day 13

Trent Corney’s Training Camp Journal

June 10, 2016

Tonight is the rookie night and the guys have been planning it for a while. It’s basically the rookies going up there and showing some of their talents, trying to make the guys laugh and show some respect to the veteran guys. I have something unique, but I don’t want to spoil it and so I’ll detail it in the next journal.

Trent CorneyI’m tired right now, but you rely on your teammates on a day like today. My brain has been stimulated for the last two weeks with everything… it’s hard to explain. My mind is fatigued and it feels like I just came out of a three-hour exam. Right now I need a good two-hour nap and then I’ll wake up feeling like a million bucks.

We watched film yesterday, I ate some food… and I really shouldn’t have, but I lifted twice yesterday. I was moving some pretty good weight, hitting four or five plates on the bench for multiple reps. It felt like it was paper.

Like Arnold (Schwarzenegger) says: ‘I love to pump.’ It’s very satisfying the feeling of getting a pump in the gym, but I also keep my workouts functional, too, for the sport. It’s not just for looks.

But… the one thing I tell people is this: I may not be the best football player on the field, but I am going to be the best-looking guy in the jersey.

Defensive end Trent Corney was the Bombers first pick, 9th overall, in the 2016 CFL Draft. A product of Brockville, Ont., he played his college ball at the University of Virginia.

Bluebombers.com will chronicle Corney’s daily battles through training camp, from the highs on the field to the transition from the college to the pro game.
