Training Camp Journal – Day 9

Trent Corney’s Training Camp Journal

June 6, 2016

It’s been 15 practices and so we’ve been playing against our teammates for awhile, and we really want to start hitting some other guys and start building a brotherhood.

The biggest thing I want to show them is effort on the field, but I also want to show them I’m understanding and taking coaching well.

I’m starting three different special teams: field goal, punt and punt return, and then backing up on kickoff and kickoff return. I should be getting some defensive reps too, so I’m going to be pretty tired after that game.

There were times at Virginia where I was in a rotation and didn’t play much. After those games I had so much energy that I would lift after games.

I don’t think there will be any reason to be lifting after the game this week.

After games I love to go out and eat with teammates or family members and I eat a massive, massive meal. One time when my family came up I had three entrees and had $100 worth of food. That was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

At UVA they made a rule after me: At dining hall, I used to eat and take a box to go. Also, there was this one spot where you could just go right through the line and get quick food. I used to go back there five minutes later and keep getting food, so they made a rule where you had to wait at least an hour before going back there. Then they made another rule where you can’t eat AND take a box. I was on a meal plan for four years and I got my money’s worth. The next year I went back to do the same thing and they said, ‘No. We’re not doing this any more. You’re cut off.’

Defensive end Trent Corney was the Bombers first pick, 9th overall, in the 2016 CFL Draft. A product of Brockville, Ont., he played his college ball at the University of Virginia.

Bluebombers.com will chronicle Corney’s daily battles through training camp, from the highs on the field to the transition from the college to the pro game.
