Purolator Tackle Hunger raises 297,200 pounds of food for Winnipeg Harvest

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA (July 13, 2015) – As part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) program, Purolator employees,Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans and local food bank volunteers teamed up in Winnipeg today to raise the equivalent of 297,200 pounds of food for Winnipeg Harvest.

“Thanks to the outstanding  and inspiring support of Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans, this year’s Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive raised more than 297,200 pounds of food for Winnipeg Harvest,” said Patrick Nangle, President and CEO, Purolator. “The food and funds raised will go a long way in feeding those affected by hunger in Winnipeg and surrounding areas.”

Now in its 13th season, the PTH program raises awareness, food and funds for local food banks across Canada. At one game in every Canadian Football League (CFL) city, Purolator organizes a Game Day Food Drive and encourages fans to drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation in support of food banks in their communities. This is in addition to the food collected at each Winnipeg Blue Bomber home game throughout the season: a partnership that is celebrating 28 years of support for Winnipeg Harvest.

“We are extremely proud of our fans, who continue to increase the amount of food donated to Winnipeg Harvest year after year. Last year, our team raised 97,700 pounds of food for the Tackle Hunger game; this year, our fans have set a Bombers record for food raised at 297,200 pounds.” Said Wade Miller, President & CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. “The Winnipeg Blue Bombers share Winnipeg Harvest’s vision is to help create a community that no longer requires food bank services. Until that time, we are proud partners in developing long term solutions for tackling hunger in Winnipeg.”

Last year, PTH raised the equivalent of 1.3 million pounds of food. This year, the program has set a goal to help raise more than 1.4 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.

“A huge thank you to Purolator, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and their fans for their generosity,” said David Northcott, executive director, Winnipeg Harvest. “The donations raised through the Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive comeat a much needed time as our food donations are at their lowest over the summer months. Purolator’s commitment to helping feed hungry families is a victory for our clients.
