Pembina Trails Human Rights Project

After a year of planning and learning focused on human rights, students and staff of the Pembina Trails School Division will now converge on Investors Group Field for a two day event on May 20th and 21st where a massive mosaic will be created on the field. In all, 15,000 students and staff will each place a panel on the green turf that highlights one right of the child.

A public viewing will be held on May 21 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“As we gather at Investors Group Field Wednesday and Thursday, we will symbolize as a large community that we have connected our purpose in education with the larger community’s purpose of raising a generation of students with a heart for others, a desire to grow up in a better world, and deep commitment to being an integral part of making a difference,” shares Ted Fransen, Superintendent of Education.

This innovative project will be a first in Canada and is made possible through a partnership with the Canadian Museum For Human Rights, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Investors Group Field. In the hopes of inspiring our students long past the event itself, a number of guest speakers will be sharing their own human rights stories. Gale Asper, Michael Champagne, and a survivor of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, Éloge Butera, are just some of the many speakers that will take center stage.  Winnipeg Blue Bombers players Zach Anderson and Louie Richardson will also speak at the event.
