Brendon’s Blog – First Against First

Written by: Brendon LaBatte

Hello again everyone!

I apologize for not writing a blog last week. After the sudden loss of coach Richard Harris, I found myself unable to write anything. All I could think about was him and how great of a man he was. He’s definitely the most well respected man I ever met in my life. I’ve never heard a bad word uttered about Coach Harris in my short four year career. Everyone around the league had a tremendous respect for him. The impact he had on every person he met was incredible. After his passing stories highlighting his character and compassion began to surface and made you appreciate him even more. When he talked to you one on one, you could feel his genuine compassion, care and interest in you. He could also silence the room and have everyone’s attention instantly if he decide to raise his voice and bark out an order. Last week was definitely a tough challenge playing the B.C Lions. The tribute before the game, the posters in the crowd, pictures of him flashing up on the jumbotron, it really tugged at the emotions and it was difficult to keep them in check and remain focused on the game. Fortunately we were able to muster up the W even though it wasn’t as pretty as we’d like it to be. The win was great, but the cause we were playing for was much greater then the 2 points and the W.

This week we have the undefeated Edmonton Eskimos coming to town. The game should be very exciting. A battle of two first place teams, (albeit only 1/3 of the way through the season) but very important to both clubs none the less. The complete 180 degree turnaround both teams did from a year ago has many people surprised that the two worst teams at the end of last year are the two best early this season. We realize that this is only week six and there is a ton of hard football to be played before being in first place becomes important, but it’s great to get a taste of what winning is about. The extra little bit of excitement that winning produces is often times just what you need to grind out close games successfully down the road. The fans of Bomber nation have been awesome!! Our stadium’s got to be up there with loudest in the league when it gets rocking. It’s no fun playing in a loud stadium as the opposition and I’d like to thank you for all your support. Keep coming out and being loud and we’ll continue to try our best to give you something to cheer about. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and Go Blue!
