The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have taken the You Can Play pledge in partnership with the You Can Play Project. The mission of this project is to ensure equality, respect, and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation. You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete and that they are judged by other athletes and fans only by what they contribute to the sport or their team’s success. Finally, You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete’s skills, work ethic, and competitive spirit.

Our You Can Play team ambassador Teague Sherman partnered with the Manitoba Human Rights Commission for their 2015 DREAM Youth Human Rights Conferences, giving presentations to grade 7 and 8 youth Winnipeg and rural Manitoba (video above). The Bombers are extending these presentations with the You Can Play Project by bringing these anti-discriminatory messages into schools in the 2015-2016 school year.

This year, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers partnered with the Winnipeg Pride Festival for the first time and will be supporting the festival with You Can Play content and producing the Blue Bombers Kids Zone. This project is sponsored entirely by the Winnipeg Football Club and offered free to all participants and partners.
