Blue Bombers add two defensive backs roster

WINNIPEG, MB., January 30, 2021 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American defensive backs Jeremiah Johnson and Marwin Evans.

Johnson (6-1, 190, Concord University; DOB: April 15, 1994 in Baltimore, MD) joins the Bombers after last playing with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL. In five games with Houston, Johnson had one interception, returning it 64 yards, and added 9.5 tackles.

During his days at Concordia University, Johnson was named to the First Team All-Mountain East Conference for four consecutive seasons (2014-17), the first to accomplish that feat in the program’s history. He was also twice voted an All-American by the Don Hansen Football Gazette. Johnson finished his college career ranking fifth in school history in interceptions with 11 and third in pass break-ups with 36.

After going undrafted in 2018, he signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Johnson also spent time with the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football in 2019.

Evans (5-11, 211, Utah State; DOB: April 10, 1993 in Milwaukee, WI.) comes to the Bombers with 32 games of NFL experience, including one start, with the Green Bay Packers over the 2016-17 seasons.

After being released by the Packers in 2018, Evans was signed to the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad in 2019. He was drafted by the Dallas Renegades in the 2020 XFL Supplemental Draft, but did not see any action before the league folded in April of that year.

Evans spent two seasons at Utah State after playing one year at Highland Community College in Kansas and his freshman year at Rochester Community College in Minnesota. During his senior year at Utah State, Evans started 13 games and finished with 73 tackles, two forced fumbles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and five pass break-ups and a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown.
