2018 Draft Recap

WINNIPEG, MB., May 3, 2018 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected seven players in the 2018 CFL Draft held tonight.

The Blue Bombers began the night by selecting Calgary wide receiver Rashaun Simonise with the 12th overall selection.

Simonise (6-4, 202, University of Calgary, May 31, 1995 in Vancouver, BC) spent three seasons with the Calgary Dinos. In 2015, Simonise had 1,013 yards and 65 catches in 8 games played. Simonise was named a First-Team U Sports All-Canadian and was the number one ranked receiver in Canada. In 2016, Simonise signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent.

With their third round, 26th overall pick that the Blue Bombers acquired from Toronto in the 2016 Drew Willy trade, Winnipeg selected McMaster wide receiver Daniel Petermann.

Petermann (5-11, 205, McMaster University, October 4, 1995 in Stoney Creek, ON) spent four seasons with the McMaster Marauders. In 2017, Petermann led the Marauders with 36 catches for 517 yards and two touchdowns. In 2014, Petermann earned the OUA rookie of the year award with 61 catches for 831 yards and nine touchdowns.

In the fourth round, 33rd overall, Winnipeg selected Montreal offensive lineman Arnaud Gendron-Dumouchel.

Gendron-Dumouchel (6-9, 310, University of Montreal, August 9, 1994 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, QC) played seven games for the Montreal Carabins in 2017. At the CFL Combine, Gendron-Dumouchel recorded 20 bench press repetitions, the fifth best result of all players present.

In the fifth round, 41st overall, Winnipeg selected Laval wide receiver Tyrone Pierre.

Pierre, (6-2, 201, Laval University, February 8, 1995 in Ottawa, ON) played four seasons with the Laval Rouge et Or. In 2017, Pierre had 13 receptions for 122 yards in eight games. Pierre won the 2016 Vanier Cup with Laval University.

In the sixth round, 49th overall, Winnipeg selected Bishop offensive lineman Matthew Ouellet De Carlo.

De Carlo (6-04, 318, Bishop’s University, November 7, 1993 in Pierrefond QC) played four seasons with the Bishop’s Gaiters. De Carlo is a two-time Academic All-Canadian and participated in the 2017 U Sports East-West bowl. In 2014, De Carlo received newcomer of the year honors and in 2016 was named linemen of the year for the Gaiters.

In the seventh round, 58th overall, Winnipeg selected Queen’s defensive back Jacob Firlotte.

Firlotte (6-3, 216, Queen’s University, May 29, 1996 in Abbotsford, BC) spent four seasons with the Queen’s Gaels, playing in 30 games. Firlotte recorded 49 solo tackles and 3 interceptions in his career at Queen’s.

In the eighth round, 67th overall, Winnipeg selected Waterloo offensive lineman Ben Koczwara.

Koczwara (6-3, 291, Waterloo University) played four seasons with the Waterloo Warriors, playing in 31 games. Koczwara participated in the 2017 U Sports East-West Bowl.
