Nick Bastaja had five CFL seasons under his belt with Hamilton and Toronto before he was traded to Winnipeg in 1980. Bastaja would have his best years in Winnipeg colours, being named to the CFL All-Star team in 1984 and 1985 and the division all-star squad six times. The 1985 season proved to be his best, as he was awarded the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award. After retirement, Bastaja worked as an analyst for CFL games on the Canadian Football Network.
