He Wore It Well:

Harold Neufeld, HB, 1949

As you can see, in the close to 90-year history of the Winnipeg Football Club only five players, by our records, have worn the #49. Winnipegger Harold Neufeld was just 21 and one of many local players scooped up to play for the Bombers in 1949 after suited up for the Winnipeg Rods and Norwood/St. Boniface Legionnaires.

Interestingly, Neufeld would actually gain more notoriety after playing with the Bombers as he was a member of the 1952 Norwood/St. Boniface Legionnaires that captured the Canadian Intermediate Football Championship. The Legionnaires fell in the 1951 Canadian final in Hamilton but, backed by 7,000 fans at Osborne Stadium in the 1952 championship, were able to knock off the Peterborough Orfuns 31-18.

Neufeld, a wingback, ran for two touchdowns in the win.
