NEW: U16 SPRING TACKLE FOOTBALL IN MANITOBA
OVERVIEW:
The 2026 U16 Spring Tackle League is a collaborative initiative between the Manitoba Minor Football Association (MMFA) and High School Football programs. Our mission is simple: To bridge the critical gap between youth and high school football. By aligning our community clubs with high school catchments, we are creating a developmental pathway that ensures every Grade 8 and 9 athlete (Born 2011/2012) enters their fall season faster, stronger, and more “football smart.”
- Game Reps Matter: We’ve added a 5-week spring schedule because actual game speed is the only way to accelerate football IQ.
- National Competitiveness: This league serves as the primary developmental pipeline to ensure Manitoba remains a powerhouse at National tournaments.
- Safety Through Mastery: Every player undergoes 6 dedicated Safe Contact practices before the first kickoff. We master the fundamentals, so the game stays fast and safe.
- Parity & Tiering: To ensure growth, teams are tiered after Week 2. This guarantees every athlete competes against similar skill levels—meaning no blowouts, just competitive football.
- Dual Eligibility: This is a sanctioned “Spring Bridge” league. Playing now does not affect your eligibility for MMFA Bantam or WHSFL High School football in the fall. It’s a win-win.
- Friday Night Lights: Experience the thrill of Friday night games on premium turf fields, including Princess Auto Stadium, East Side, Fort Garry, and Dakota Collegiate.
- Developmental Play-Time: We believe kids get better by playing. Our coaches follow a model where every athlete sees the field during the first three quarters of every game.
- Who: Grades 8 & 9 (Birth Years 2011/2012).
- When: May 4 – June 19, 2026.
- Cost: $235 (Includes Football Manitoba Membership, officials, and certified Athletic Therapists at every game).
- Equipment: Helmets and pads are provided by your local Club or High School (Note: Refundable deposits may apply).
