2025: Blue Bombers
The Blue Bombers signed Castillo to a two-year contract extension on January 19, 2026 following another stellar season in 2025.
Heading into 2026 Castillo has appeared in 61 games over his three periods with the Blue Bombers and is coming off a 2025 season in which he connected on 85.7 percent of his field goal attempts (48-of-56) and 93 percent of his converts (40-of-43).
His 48 made field goals last season ranked as fourth most in a season in franchise history behind Justin Medlock (60 in 2016 and 56 in 2017) and his own mark of 51 in 2024.
He also broke his own record for longest field goal in team history with a 63-yarder in a loss in Calgary in August, a kick that tied the mark for the longest in Canadian Football League history.
One of the most popular Blue Bombers in the locker room and in the community, Castillo also moved into sixth place in all-time franchise scoring in 2025. His 184 points last season now gives him 639 as a Blue Bomber.
He was a CFL All-Star in 2019 and the Blue Bombers Most Outstanding Special Teams player in 2023 and 2024.
Castillo has appeared in 113 CFL games over nine seasons, including his time with Ottawa (2016), Hamilton (2017), B.C. (2019) and Edmonton (2022).
2024: Blue Bombers
Castillo authored another stellar campaign for the Blue Bombers and was named the club’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player for a second consecutive season after connecting on 79.7 percent of his field goals (51-of-64), and hitting on 38-of-39 converts.
His 51 successful field goals – third highest in Blue Bombers history — came from an average distance of 37.1 yards and the average attempt from 39.2 yards – both league-highs. He also established a new CFL record with 11 field goals of 50 yards or more, including two makes from 60 yards – breaking the previous team record of 58, first set by Bernie Ruoff in 1975 and tied by Justin Medlock in 2016.

2023: Blue Bombers
Castillo returned to the Blue Bombers for his third stint with the club after initially signing in 2015, being acquired via trade during the 2021 campaign and then signing last May following his release by the Edmonton Elks.
Castillo’s 2023 season was record-breaking, as he connected on 46 of 51 field goal attempts, with his 90.2 percentage establishing a new Blue Bomber standard. Castillo was a perfect 31 of 31 inside the 40-yard line; 15 of 20 in 40-plus attempts and four of 6 from 50 yards-plus, including a season-long of 53 yards.
He was 3 of 5 in the Western Final and then hit his only attempt in the Grey Cup, extending his streak in championship games to six after he went 5 of 5 in the Blue Bombers 2021 victory over Hamilton in the title game.
Castillo enters 2024 with a career field goal percentage of 86.7 (170-196) in 77 career CFL games with the Blue Bombers (2015, 2021, and 2023), Ottawa RedBlacks (2016), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2017), B.C. Lions (2019) and Edmonton Elks (2022).
He signed a contract extension to remain with the club on February 23, 2024.
2022: Edmonton Elks
The Elks signed Castillo to a two-year contract on March 14, 2022 and he enjoyed a solid season with the club, connecting on 37-of-44 (84.1 percent) of his field goal attempts while connecting on 26-of-29 (89.7) of his convert attempts.
The Elks released him on May 4, 2023 and the Blue Bombers announced his signing 90 minutes later.
Castillo has appeared in 59 CFL games over six seasons with the Blue Bombers (2015), Ottawa RedBlacks (2016), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2017), B.C. Lions (2019), Blue Bombers (2021) and Elks (2022). He was also in training camp with the Tennessee Titans in 2021 after playing in seven games with the New York Jets in 2020.
Castillo holds a career field goal percentage of 85.5 in the CFL, having made 124 of his 145 attempts, and has a career convert percentage of 90.4.
2021: Blue Bombers
The Blue Bombers acquired Castillo on October 19, 2021 in a trade with the B.C. Lions in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2022 CFL Draft.
The move turned out to be critical, as during the 2021 Grey Cup run Castillo was seven-of-nine in three regular-season games and then was perfect in the playoffs, connecting on all four converts while going 5-for-5 in blustery conditions at Tim Hortons Field in the club’s overtime victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
2020: Houston Roughnecks/New York Jets
Castillo was selected by the Roughnecks in the 2020 XFL Supplemental Draft and played give games with the club before the league suspended its season in April due to the COVID-19 outbreak. He then signed with B.C. in 2020, but opted out of his contract when the CFL season was cancelled.
He signed with the Jets in October of 2020 and played in seven games before his release.
2019: B.C. Lions
Castillo was named a CFL All-Star after connecting on 41-of-45 field goal attempts (91.1 percent), including five field goals covering 50 yards or longer.
2018: Ottawa Redblacks/San Antonio Commanders
Castillo signed with the Redblacks on April 9, 2018, but the lingering effects of an ACL injury led to his release. He was then signed by the Commanders of the Alliance of American Football, but did not play in the league the following spring.
2017: Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Ticats signed Castillo in May of 2017 and he connected on made 29 of 34 field goals, 20 of 21 converts, and had 93 punts for a 45.1-yard average in 14 games.
On October 6, 2017, Castillo suffered a season-ending ACL injury and was released in the offseason.
2016: Ottawa RedBlacks
Ottawa signed Castillo in September of 2016 as an injury replacement for Zackary Medeiros, the team’s punter. He punted in two games, recording 13 punts for a 45.2-yard average and was released at the end of that month.
2015: Blue Bombers
Castillo was first brought to the CFL in October of 2015 after initially signing as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 2014. Castillo finished that year going 10-of-13 in field-goal attempts for the club before Justin Medlock was signed in free agency in 2016.
College:
Castillo played four years at West Texas A&M, hitting on 76.2 percent of his field goals and All-Lone Star Conference All-Star honours each season. He was named Daktronics First Team All-America and Little America First Team honours as a junior in 2012.
He also set the school record for field goals in a season (38) and recorded the second-longest field goal in school history (56 yards) in 2012.
