Dave Ritchie first joined the Bombers in 1990 as a special teams assistant under then-head coach Mike Riley. He left for the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1992 and after stints as head coach with the B.C. Lions – where he led them to the 1994 Grey Cup – and Montreal Alouettes, returned to beome the Bombers boss in 1999.
Ritchie was part of a remarkable turnaround for the Bombers, going 6-12 in his first year to 14-4 in 2001. And when he left the team in 2004 he had compiled a record of 52-44-1, third on the Bombers all-time list behind only Bud Grant and Cal Murphy.
