Art Ceretti played a prominent role in the advancement of junior and school football in this town and was one of those ‘movers and shakers’ that just gets things done. As a teenager in the 1920s he worked with friends to build a hockey rink at Notre Dame and Sherbrook and later organized a bantam-aged team.

He began working with the Winnipeg Rods (later named the St. James Rods) and by 1952 became the team manager. Over the next 12 years the Rods would appear in five national championships, winning in 1955, 1956 and 1961.

In 1971 Ceretti became a member of the Bombers Board of Directors and received a special award in 1991 for unofficially selling more tickets to the club’s annual dinner than any other director. Art, whose brother Bill ‘Red Dog’ played for and is a member of the Bombers Hall of Fame, was named to the Bombers Honorary Council in 1992.
