Paul Robson

Paul Robson’s association with the Blue Bombers began as a player – he was a centre and a linebacker who joined the club in 1964 and carved out a solid eight-year career with his hometown team.

It was during his playing days that Robson began to turn his attention to the business side of football. He was nominated by his teammates to serve as their representative when the CFL Players Association was formed and later became the Western Conference Vice President of the CFLPA from 1971-72.

He was named the Bombers assistant GM in 1974 and served capably in that post until 1983, when he was named GM. Robson immediately put his stamp on the football club, hiring Cal Murphy to be the head coach and spiriting Chris Walby away from the Montreal Alouettes, who had drafted the big Winnipegger but were stashing him on their practice roster. Robson’s fingerprints were all over the 1984 Blue Bomber team that ended a 22-year Grey Cup drought.

Robson later became the GM of the Ottawa Rough Riders and was so respected at the CFL board level that he was named the Chairman of the league’s board of governors.
