Michael Gray

Inducted: 2006

Defensive end: 1987-93

Division All-Star: 1989

Grey Cup Most Valuable Defensive Player: 1988

Michael Gray was a steady defensive end during his run with the Bombers. He was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 1985 while a member of the B.C. Lions, was scooped up by the Ottawa Rough Riders in the 1987 equalization draft but then released and joined the Bombers in 1987. Gray is most fondly remembered by Bomber fans for his work in the 1988 Grey Cup – he was named the game’s defensive MVP – and, in particular, for his interception of a Matt Dunigan pass near the Winnipeg goal line, dubbed the ‘Immaculate Interception’, that preserved the victory.

He turned to coaching after his playing days, first with the Lions, then the St. Louis Rams and Weber State before joining former Bomber head coach Mike Riley’s staff at Oregon State. He has also coached at Kentucky, Oregon and UNLV.
