PIT Football | Fall Season

PIT Football had an exciting return to indoor touch and flag football in the Fall.  A record 131 teams competed for 24 championship title.  The Fall season consisted of three divisions of flag football, three divisions of coed football, and nineteen divisions of touch football.   Check out some playoff highlights here:  https://www.instagram.com/p/DDih89Rgugp/

Coed Division 1

Coed Guardians 33 Kinda Athletic 14

Kinda Athletic ascended from the Division 3 Coed title all the way to the Division 1 championship game, demonstrating their very quick climb up the coed ranks.

The Coed Guardians are always in the thick of the Coed Division 1 title race.  Five different players scored for the Guardians, including eight points by game MVP and the newest provincial flag coach Mikinly Rochon.

Drew Kowaluk replied for the athletically challenged with an interception and a touchdown. This game was close early as Kinda Athletic jumped out to a quick start on the scoreboard, however the veteran Guardians stormed back in the second half to reclaim their coed crown.

Coed Division 2

Unnecessary Ruff-ness 18 DilloPickles 6

The Dillos were looking for their first undefeated season, however their hopes were pickled by an Unnecessary ruff-ness team who took a bite out of their gherkin.

The Dillo’s bread and butter plays were stifled by Beza Geddert, who added another interception to her league leading total. The cornichons were bottled up at every turn, while the Ruff-ones added three touchdowns from three different players to keep the Dillos defense in a pickle.

The highlander Jason Cassie picks up his first of four championships on the night in the victory.

Coed Division 3

Sack Attackers 32 Skibidi Squad 26

Two rookie teams battled it out for the Coed Division 3 championship in a game that came down to the wire.

Unfortunately for the sack attackers they played a person down the entire game. Instead of throwing in the towel, the remaining Sack Attackers went full legend as they stunned the toilet dwellers in taking home victory.

QB Max Drago ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns, while throwing for another. This MVP performance will become the stuff of folklore!

U18 national silver medalist Brock Greaves hauled in two touchdowns for the loo squad, but that wasn’t enough to flush down the otherworldly performance of the four sack attackers left standing.

Flag Football Division 1

Peg City Flag 43 North Bay Flag 37

Flag football is North America’s fastest growing sport and has recently been selected for the Olympics in 2028.

There is a good chance you will see a PIT player or two representing team Canada! With three Manitoba teams winning national flag football championships in recent years, the province has become a hotbed for all-star caliber players to develop.

This championship final showcased the undefeated Peg City versus the National champion u19 team featuring some of the top 16- to 18-year-old talent in the province. The veterans took home this championship in one of the best games of the night, however the youngsters showed they can hang with anyone in the province, and their future looks to be extremely bright.

Flag Football Division 2

MennoKnights 44 Seafood City 34

The Seafood City lineup was the only roster in which every player was a former national champion.

It was surprising they were relegated to Division 2, even more surprising was their loss in the final to a MennoKnights team they defeated just a couple of weeks earlier.

The MennoKnights were led by the seven touchdown passes by Taylor Buhler who made a seafood boil out of the Seafood City defence. Owen Kornelsen cast a net over the Seafood City offence, with two interceptions and multiple knockdowns.

It’s back to the coral reef for this supermarket chain, but the underwater ones may have a trick up their fins for the Winter season with a big free agent signing.

Flag Football Division 3

Andy’s Starting Five 36 Tight Ends 19

The third division of flag football was comprised of all rookie teams.

The flag divisions are growing, and in this case, Andy’s Starting Five played five strong regular season games, going 4-1, while securing the top seed.

The Tight Ends played Andy’s tough in two other occasions this season but ended 0-3 versus the eventual champs. Andy’s Starting Five had an amazing starting four, having a player leading in each of our statistical categories (touchdown passes, interceptions, points, sacks).

A great inaugural season for Team Andy!

Touch Football Division 1

Los Amigos Del Huddle 38 Gym Class Buddies 33

Los Amigos Del Huddle captured an elusive double crown, having won both Division 1 and the Buddies division championship!

Gym Class Buddies had dominated Division 1 throughout the season but first place undefeated teams, more times than not, meet their end in the playoffs. This season was no exception.

This game was a barnburner, with no one burning brighter than Justin Hoeksema, who scored 25 points in earning the game MVP and the championship. A shout out to 2024 Hall of Fame inductee Nagel Dela Cruz who put together perhaps the most enjoyable Division 1 in PIT history!

Touch Football Division 2

Sock Puppets 46 Polk High 6

The Sock Puppets socked it to Polk High in all aspects of this game.

The Puppets had the Polk High defence on a string, as former league MVP Jordan “JJ” Mikolash threw six touchdown passes on six consecutive drives.

The marionettes rag dolled the Polk High offence for four interceptions and two sacks. Not even the greatest Polk High player in their history, Al Bundy, could have saved the team as his four touchdowns would have still left Polk High 16 points back.

The fantoccini were unstoppable and showed why they led the division from start to finish.

Touch Football Division 3

Warriors 31 Kings 14

The best division in football! All four playoff teams had identical records and were only separated in the standings by their tiebreakers. It was not too surprising that the third and fourth seeds made it into the finals.

The Kings knocked off the top seed, while the Warriors ended the season as the second seed. The final proved that any King is only as good as their Warriors!

Mark Ridd, former D1 scoring champ, came out of retirement to put up three touchdowns in the final and lead his team to victory. The Kings were led by former league MVP Charlie Jessamine, who had two sacks and 13 points.  However, just like the 1789 revolution, the monarchy would be abolished.

Touch Football Division 4

MennoKnights and the Frog 36 Homer Hawks 34

The MennoKnights captured their second championship, and in the process became just the second team in PIT history to win a touch and flag championship in the same night!

This game came down to the wire, with the MennoKnights victorious on the final play of the game. Reigning Fall season MVP Kyler Harder scored on a goal line in-route as time expired to complete the come from behind victory!

This game featured some of the most unreal catches of the season as both teams balled out. Check out our championship game highlights to see just a few of the crazy receptions that made this one of the top games of the evening.

Touch Football Division 5

Big Baller Brand 47 Red Light Green Light 26

Red Light Green Light quarterback Jean-Guy Mercier deserved better.

JG threw the lights on in this game, unfortunately his team was full of holiday cheer and ended up a bit shorthanded. Despite the high scoring affair, the two defences combined for eight interceptions, as both teams threw caution to the wind on offence.

In the end, Big Baller Brand was able to bankrupt their opponents short-handed defence, turning Red Light Green Light into Green Light Green Light. BBB centre Bryce McDonald had three one handed stabs for points to add a little flair to the mediocrity that was the Big Baller shoe brand.

Touch Football Division 6

Filthy Few 32 PEG CTE 6

Peg City had the opportunity to win three different championships this weekend. While they did get one, the other two went up in flames.

The Filthy Few handed Peg chronic traumatic encephalopathy from start to finish in this game, scoring early and often. Dave Robson used both his legs and his arm to knock out Peg, finishing with a stat line of 13 points, three touchdown passes, and an interception.

Nicholas Ducharme added injury to insult by adding 12 more points to the Filthy Few final tally. Ideally, Peg City woke up in the morning with no recollection of this game.

Touch Football Division 7

Gotham Knights Legends 41 Down 2 Football 21

“Why do we fall, Bruce? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up again.”

The Gotham Knights took Thomas Wayne’s words to heart, avenging their regular season loss to D2F. D2F quarterback and provincial flag coach Jordan Demerchant threw for three touchdowns and put up some significant chunks of yardage on the ground, but it was tough battling against a member of the Justice League.

Game MVP Rob Noel had a meagre nine points during the regular season. “In Their Last Moments, People Show You Who They Really Are.” – Joker.  True to form, Rob in his two playoff games, put up 38 points, saving his best performances in the games that meant the most.

Touch Football Division 8

North Bay 38 Fail Mary 20

With their regular quarterback on sabbatical in Mexico conducting research on liver regeneration, North Bay was at a bit of a disadvantage.

To make matters worse, their regular centre was a double-agent and crossed over enemy lines!

Luckily for the monkeys from Northern Ontario, a couple of Zach’s stepped up. Zach Regert played his first game at centre, and he settled in like a veteran, firing some perfect snaps and scoring two touchdowns. Zach “Superman” Kent scored his first point of the season…then added 18 more, along with two interceptions, was named game MVP.

After those standout performances the team may change its name to Zach Bay for the Winter season.

Touch Football Division 9

Massey Boys 26 The Sisters 25

Even though the Sisters are a relatively new team to the league, that does not make them immune to the curse!

The top-seed and undefeated Sisters, just like most PIT teams travelling the road to emulate the ’72 Dolphins, had their seasons cut short.

Tristan McGillvray tried to end the curse by putting up four touchdowns (one rushing, three throwing), but that only angered the Football Gods, who provided a spell for Caden Headland to cast. Caden promptly threw for four touchdowns and the ever important two converts, the second of which was the difference.

Touch Football Division 10

McChucken 34 Bleue’s Clueless 12

Important McChicken facts: The McChicken burger is made of only 53% chicken and is high in sodium, fat, and calories.

Luckily for McChucken, they scored 73.9% of the points and burned plenty of calories during the game and while hoisting the championship trophy. Don’t default on your McChicken payments, or Mayor McCheese will Grimace send officer Big Mac to turn your Birdie into the Hamburglar.

Touch Football Division 11

NVO 42 IR 26

NVO has been bridesmaids plenty of times – usually when undefeated and are faced with the league curse.

To avoid the black magic at play, NVO took a couple of regular season losses, including one to their final’s opponents. Sean “nearly 1300 touchdown passes” Godard, added seven more to his impressive NVO resume, with Chris Bozynski on the receiving end of four of them.

Straiti Hrousalas had 18 points and an interception for IR right before they were unplugged from life support. NVO proceeded to win the Saturday night wars, sending IR to the IR.  When you’re nVo, you’re nVo 4 life.

Touch Football Division 12

The Northern 38 D3F 7

Winter is coming and the North remembers! This team has taken PIT Football by storm, playing two seasons and winning two championships.
First winning Division 14 in our Spring season and following that up with a defence of their title in Division 12.

Another great division in which the top seed and bottom division dweller were separated by just two points! Parity at its finest.

Despite the low margin of error, the Northern did have D3F’s number, winning both of their games by a combined 78-19. Sometimes its just matchups!

Congratulations to Mackenzie Faulk who was named MVP in all seven of the Northern’s games. Quite an accomplishment!

Touch Football Division 13

Football is Fun 18 431 Shootaz 12

After these teams combined for 76 points in their regular season tilt, another high scoring game was predicted. As with most predications on championship night, this one threw us a curveball.

The finals turned into a defensive battle, with the defences combining for four interceptions, three sacks, and zero converts allowed.

Brock Wittevrongel scored the winning touchdown late to ensure that Football is Fun had the last laugh and their first championship title. First time champion, long time player.

Congratulations to Steven Bleue who won his first men’s title as a quarterback after nearly twenty-four seasons of play!

Touch Football Division 14

Henry Ruggs Valet Service 44 North Bay Nation 33

Henry Ruggs sped through the competition, not unlike a corvette driver going 156 mph at 3:39 a.m. with a twice the legal limit of alcohol in their system.

Going 5-0, Henry Ruggs thought they were untouchable. North Bay Nation kept the game within a score until a late touchdown put the game out of reach.

Henry Ruggs will see if they can put those numbers up in a higher division in the Winter or will their upstart careers be ended early when they are sent to lock up by more refined opposing defences.

Touch Football Division 15

Young Wild and Free 33 Creatine Gobblers 12

Young Wild and Free have become a championship magnate, having had a very successful run in recent seasons.

YWF avenged their regular season loss to the Gobblers, while taking the hard road to the championship by knocking off the first and second seeds. Four different players scored for YWF. Issac Dokken and Zander Koop had big games (gains?) cycling on Creatine, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Wild army from taking home another title and stripping the league of championship shirts!

Touch Football Division 16

Globo Gym Purple Cobras 32 Mon’trez and the Gang 12

The problem: The Cobras were down their quarterback for championship game. The solution? Send in back up QB Shawn Inglis to dominate the game with five touchdown passes, two converts, and a the most valuable player award.

Mon’trez and the Gang dominated the division with a plus/minus of +106 but went 0-2 once they entered Globo Gym.  The top two teams in the division faced one another in the championship game, however, matchups are key, and Globo Gym seems to have Mon’trez by the purple cobra.

Touch Football Division 17

Cheeky Pints 25 Everdeadlys 12

In the Cheeky Pints first three seasons in the league they failed to make the playoffs. In their fourth season, they have their name hung in the rafters!

Jorden Reid-Whyte scored twelve points and added two interceptions for the Cheeky ones, who also used backfield to perfection to pull away from the Everdeadlys, a team who was also looking for their first PIT championship.

Myles Kakewash, who set the league sack record this past summer season, continued his ever deadly play, with three more sacks in the championship final. However, this was not enough to stop the Pints from downing their opponents.

Touch Football Division 18

Bruce’s Bento Box 31 Hawktua 25

What do a multi-compartment box used for containing the different courses of a usually Japanese lunch and Hailey Welch crypto-coin investors have in common? Both have an IQ of zero.

Bruce’s Bento Box has tried to end the 15-minutes of fame of the internet sensation, besting the ‘Tuas by just a single touchdown. The Bentos were led by the four touchdown passes of Kory Stagg, three to converted wide receiver Tim Maguire.

Jamal Mohammad tried to keep Hawktua relevant with two interceptions and 18 points, but let’s hope that Hailey jumps the shark soon so that we don’t have our collective intelligence reduced any more than it already has.

Touch Football Division 19

Red River Streams 28 One Bourbon One Scotch and One Beer 6

One Bourbon is going to need to follow their namesake to get over this loss.
The top-seed had a chance for their first Division 19 championship.  However, Red River was streaming a different narrative.

Easton DuBois had all four touchdowns for the Streamers, and James Bartlett had two touchdown passes, an interception, and a convert in the victory.

Jacob Kolody scored his first touchdown of the season for One Bourbon, but this was a night to drink to forget for his team. The Streams bring their first championship trophy to the Red River.

Redemption Bowl #1

‘Hawks 31 Sideline Menaces 0

The ‘Hawks had taken some time off from playing, while the Sideline Menaces were a rookie team looking to make a name for themselves.

While both teams’ regular seasons didn’t go as planned, they had an opportunity to make up for it in the Redemption Bowl!

The veteran-laden ‘Hawks team came in with a vengeance, playing their best game of the season. Led by the record-tying five interception game by Kyle Warren, and the 18 points by November player of the month Doug Larke, the Hawks dive bombed the Menaces.

Both teams will have a chance to turn their regular seasons around come Winter!

 Redemption Bowl #2

Freak Bobs 27 Bye Week 15

Bye Week had to hold off an army as the Freak Bobs roster was freakishly large!

Cue Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” as Bye Week tried to hold the fort against overwhelming odds. While Bye Week ran with an ironman roster, the Freak Bobs were able to send wave after wave of substitutes into the game, eventually wearing down the more than game Bye Week team.

Ahmed Eldessouky led the Bobs with a freakish stat line of three touchdown passes and a quarterback sack. Former Avenger Damian “lint trap” McKenzie scored 13 of Bye Week’s 15 points and added a sack, showing the league that even in his 50s, Damian shows no hint of slowing down.

Fall MVP

Kyler Harder

Congratulations to Kyler Harder, our 2024 Fall Most Valuable Player.

In our closest finish ever, Kyler finished one vote ahead of five other MVP candidates. Kyler finished second in flag scoring and third in touch scoring, demonstrating his versatility in either type of offence.

For his efforts, Kyler received quite the prize package from our league sponsors, including the PIT Football MVP belt, and a Blue Bomber replica Grey Cup ring!

Congratulations to our newest MVP on his amazing season. If you want to try to best Kyler in the winter season, be sure to get yourself registered!

Fall Most Sportsmanlike Player

Kory Stagg

Our first winner of the Dr. Kanwal Saran Most Sportsmanlike player award deservedly goes to Kory Stagg, quarterback of Bruce’s Bento Box (division 18 champions) and 431 Shootaz (division 13 runners-up), and long-time member of the PIT Football League.

Dr. Kanwal Saran was elected to the Manitoba Touch Football Hall of Fame in 2019. As a former national champion, Kanwal combined skill and sportsmanship as one of the best players to step on the field. His passing left a large void in the league.

This award is just one way to ensure his legacy lives on. Just like our MVP selections, the MSP was selected after each game, and Kory solicited the most votes. Congratulations Kory, we couldn’t have selected a better person for the inaugural award.

Kory received a prize package from PURE Lifestyle and Wellness, and the PIT Football league.

The PIT Football league is the official touch and flag football league of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  The league thanks the Winnipeg Football Club for all their support of football initiatives in the province. If you want to join a team, or have an existing team, check out www.pitfootball.com for more information.  Registration for our Winter season ends January 3rd, 2025!   Be sure to follow us @PITFootball on Instagram and X.
