Each week a Bombers player visits with Ed Tait of bluebombers.com to reminisce about a particular game, or games, that is most memorable for them in their careers in high school, college or professional careers.

  •  first-round draft pick (6th overall) of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2015, Demski signed with the Bombers as a free agent in 2018 after 31 games over two years in Regina.
  • Demski has enjoyed his two best seasons as a pro with his hometown Bombers, pulling in 103 passes for 1,097 yards and six touchdowns, adding 395 yards and three more scores along the ground in 34 games.
  • As a member of the University of Manitoba, Demski became the first Bisons player to be named on four CIS (U Sports) all-star teams. A multi-purpose threat, he finished his college career ranked fourth in total touchdowns.

Demski:

“It’s a tough question, but I’ve got two games that instantly come straight to my mind.

“The first was the 2009 Winnipeg High School Football League championship game. It’s probably the craziest high school game that I’ve been a part of because it was such a shootout. We ended up losing to St. Paul’s 52-49, but I scored six touchdowns that game and gave it my all. I would take a win over the stats, any day.

“It wasn’t just because it was a standout game statistically for me. It was more the realization that I could go and score every touchdown for our team but, at the end of the day, we didn’t win. So, I’ve got to go back to the drawing board and figure out what I have to do personally to helps us win. How do I take it to the next level? That’s something that always stuck with me as a team player.

“Even in university, I could get all these All-Canadian awards, but we never won a Vanier Cup. What can I do, even I put everything on the line, to make the difference, do that one more thing to help us win.

“The other game that comes to mind is the Grey Cup, of course. Last year was such a roller-coaster. Being a decent part of the offence, winning the Grey Cup after 29 years, and to be a Winnipeg boy coming home… that Grey Cup game was just jitters the whole game. And after we won, it was just the best feeling.

“At the end of the game when Andrew and I hugged and ran down the field just after Zach’s kneel down… I go back to 2018 when I signed here as a free agent. We were buddies before that, but when I signed and it was official one of our first conversations was, ‘We’ve got to bring a Grey Cup to the city.’

“So, after two years of talking about it and working for it, in that moment that was a lot of emotion of it finally paying off. That’s a moment I’ll never forget.”
