Blue Bombers 2020 Draft recap
WINNIPEG, MB., April 30, 2020 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected seven players in the 2020 CFL Draft held tonight.
The Blue Bombers began the night by selecting McMaster defensive back Noah Hallett with 18th overall selection.
Hallett (6-0, 190, McMaster, in London, ON) spent three seasons at McMaster, playing in 23 games over that time. Hallett recorded 68.5 total tackles, four tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups, seven interceptions, three sacks and one forced fumble. Noah is the brother of current Blue Bomber and 2019 CFL Draft selection, Nick Hallett (seventh round), who made 13 special teams tackles and played in every game for the Blue Bombers last season.
With their fourth-round pick, 37th overall, Winnipeg selected Nevada receiver Brendan O’Leary-Orange.
O’Leary-Orange (6-4, 210, Nevada, in Toronto, ON) saw playing time in only six games in 2019 due to injury, making five receptions for 85 yards. He played in 11 games in 2018, making seven starts and recorded 14 receptions for 214 yards and tied his career-high four scores. He was a member of Nevada’s 2018 Arizona Bowl victory team. O’Leary-Orange played in 11 of Nevada’s 12 games in his sophomore year, making nine starts and producing single-season career highs in all categories, making a name for himself by ranking third on the team with 39 receptions and 618 receiving yards.
In the fifth round, 39th overall, the Blue Bombers selected Western University kicker Marc Liegghio.
Liegghio (5-7, 189, Western University, in Woodbridge, ON) played four years at Western University, leading all U Sports punters in 2019 with a 47.5 yard punt average, setting a new OUA record. Liegghio also lead the league in extra points made (31) and total kickoff yardage (1,757) and finished with a 92% field goal percentage.
Also in the fifth round, 46th overall, Winnipeg selected University of Saskatchewan defensive lineman Nicholas Dheilly.
Dheilly (6-4, 210, Saskatchewan, in Regina, SK) spent three seasons with the Regina Rams before transferring to the University of Saskatchewan. In 2016 while with the Rams, Dheilly was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year after finishing the conference schedule with 17 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and a pass breakup as well as finishing in a tie for second in Canada West with four sacks. In 2017, he was named a Canada West All-Star, finishing second in Canada West with 6.5 sacks, which tied the school record, and led the conference with 9.5 tackles for loss and also tied for the Canada West lead with three forced fumbles. Dheilly spent the 2018 season with the Okanagan Sun before joining the Huskies in 2019.
In the sixth round, 55th overall, Winnipeg selected University of Ottawa linebacker Kyle Rodger.
Rodger (5-11, 207, Ottawa, in Repentigny, QC) appeared 16 games with the GeeGees, recording 70 tackles, three sacks, 6.5 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and one interception over that span.
In the seventh round, 64th overall, Winnipeg selected Wilfrid Laurier linebacker Tanner Cadwallader.
Cadwallader (5-11, 215, Wilfrid Laurier, Georgetown, ON) spent three seasons at Wilfrid Laurier, appearing in 13 games over that span. He played the 2019 season with the London Beefeaters (CJFL), appearing in eight regular season games and registering 22 unassisted tackles and two assisted tackles and two sack. He also recorded three interceptions – one of which he returned for a touchdown.
In the eighth round, 73rd overall selection Winnipeg selected defensive back Bleska Kambamba.
Kambamba (5-11, 190, Western, London, ON) recorded 32 tackles in ten games in 2019. He also registered one sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions in 2019. Kambamba played four seasons at Western, playing in 31 career games during that span.
