WINNIPEG, MB., September 13, 2019 –The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce Bob Cameron as the 12th inductee to the club’s Ring of Honour at IG Field.
The ceremony will take place at halftime on Friday, September 27th as the team hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Cameron was a mainstay for the Bombers over a remarkable career that saw him handle the punting chores for 23 years, from 1980-2003, and 394 regular season games until he retired at age 48.
That games-played total ranks second on the Canadian Football League’s all-time list, and Cameron also holds the CFL’s consecutive games-played mark at 353, covering a stretch from August 27, 1980 to September 16, 2000.
After earning a job with the Bombers in 1980, Cameron established himself as not only one of the most consistent punters in the CFL, but the best kicker in adverse conditions – a skill that helped him earn the Most Outstanding Canadian Award in gusty conditions in the 1988 Grey Cup. He appeared in six Grey Cups for the Bombers – 1984, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1993, 2001 – and has three championship rings from the ’84, ’88 and ’90 teams.
Cameron was a four-time CFL All-Star (1988, 1989, 1990, 1993) and a six-time divisional all-star (1984, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1995). He was the Bombers’ Most Outstanding Canadian Player in 1988 and 1998 and was inducted into the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame in 2003, the Nova Scotia Football Hall of Fame in 2009, Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and the Acadia University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
Cameron is the lone Ring of Honour inductee for 2019 and now joins a group of legends that includes Chris Walby, Ken Ploen, Gerry James, Milt Stegall, Dieter Brock, Leo Lewis, Bud Grant, Herb Gray, Doug Brown, Jack Jacobs and Fritz Hanson.
