Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce 2018 Hall of Fame inductees

WINNIPEG, MB., June 3, 2018 –  The Winnipeg Football Club is pleased to announce the 2018 Blue Bombers Hall of Fame inductees: receiver Robert Gordon, and in the builder category, long-time executive Bob Miles.

“We’re thrilled to add two outstanding contributors to our organization,” said Wade Miller, President & CEO of the Winnipeg Football Club. “Robert Gordon was part of the team’s revitalization on the field in the early 2000s and played an important role in one of the CFL’s most exciting offences. Bob Miles was part of that surge as well, helping steer the franchise through some difficult financial times and provided stability and guidance at the executive level.”

The 2018 class will be honoured at the Hall of Fame Legacy Gala Dinner on Tuesday, October 9th, as well as at the annual Hall of Fame Game on October 13th, when the Blue Bombers host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Investors Group Field.

PLAYER: ROBERT GORDON

Known as ‘Flash’ or ‘Bobby Gorgeous’ during his days with the Bombers, Gordon will always be remembered as a reliable receiver who was popular both in the community and in the locker room. Gordon spent six seasons with the Blue Bombers (1999-2004) and finished his career ranked 11th on the club’s all-time receiving yardage list with 4,474 yards on 288 receptions, adding 20 touchdowns.

He began his CFL career with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1991, and after stings with a handful of teams across the league, landed with the Bombers in 1999 after spending the 1998 season with the Arena League’s Orlando Predators.

Gordon led the Bombers in receptions in the 2000 season, pulling in 89 receptions for 1,395 yards and seven touchdowns – all career bests – while being named an East Division All-Star. Gordon was also a divisional all-star in 1999, following a season in which he finished with 59 receptions for 863 yards and four touchdowns.
BUILDER: BOB MILES

Miles played an instrumental role during his days as club president of the board of directors, steering the Club during the difficult times in the mid-to-late 1990s and into the new millennium and keeping the franchise afloat.

Miles joined the WFC board in 1992 and then began his time with the executives in 1996. The Bombers financial difficulties had been building for a number of years and when Miles was elected club president in 1999, it was in serious trouble. It was through his leadership that the club not only survived, but began to rebuild its reputation on and off the field. He played a key role in the long-term restructuring plan titled ‘2000 and Beyond’ that saw the club remain as a community-based organization, but with some significant changes to its structure, including a paid leadership of the club that would report to the board of directors.

Those decisions were critical in helping the franchise not only erase its deficit, but helped establish a stable footing that would ultimately lead to the construction of Investors Group Field and the healthy operation it is today.
