WHSFL | Week 6

The leaves have turned, there is a chill in the air, and this is when things really start to get interesting in the Winnipeg High School Football League with the annual jockeying for playoff positions.

Here are some Week 6 WHSFL storylines to keep an eye on, starting with those chasing a perfect season:

  • Five teams remain unbeaten, all 5-0, across the three WHSFL Divisions. St. Paul’s Crusaders top the Potter Division and are home to the Sturgeon Heights Huskies, 3-2, Thursday.
In the Vidruk Division, both the Kelvin Clippers and Dryden Eagles are unbeaten, and in what is surely the WHSFL’s game of the week, the two squads meet Friday afternoon in Northwestern Ontario.
And in the Currie Division, the two unbeaten teams – Daniel McIntyre and Beaver Brae of Kenora, will be featured in games this week at Investors Group Field. Daniel McIntyre meets West Kildonan, 4-1, Thursday at 3 p.m. at IGF, with Beaver Brae facing Tec Voc Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at IGF.
  • Two of the most prolific rushers in the WHSFL will continue chewing up yards this weekend as Sekina Scheibler of Fort Frances – who leads the league with 1,252 yards and 13 TDs will be in action against St. Norbert while Beaver Brae’s Chase Neufeld who has 1,167 yards is up against Tec Voc.
  • The Currie Division also has the league’s top scorer, as Daniel McIntyre QB Kieran Benson has 14 TDs and four converts in just five games with the Maroons.
