They called Charles Roberts ‘Blink’ – as in Blink and you might miss him – and the diminutive Sacramento State product made an immediate impact upon his arrival. Roberts split time at the tailback position in his first year with Eric Blount and Troy Mills, but still led the team with 620 yards while pulling in 27 passes for another 288 yards. But he also made his mark as a rookie that year on special teams and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
By the time he was traded, just after Labour Day in 2008 to B.C. for Joe Smith, Roberts had become the Bombers all-time leading rusher at 9,987 yards after leading the club in rushing for seven straight seasons.
