Rifles Lose Final Regular Season Game

The Winnipeg Rifles 2016 Prairie Football Conference season came to an end Sunday afternoon in decisive fashion.

The Rifles were thumped 44-14 by the Saskatoon Hilltops at Charlie Krupp Stadium to finish the season 2-7 and out of the playoff picture.

Winnipeg was in this fight early, answering a Logan Fischer touchdown run to open the scoring with a 44-yard score by running back Michael Ritchott to even the score.

But the Hilltops, who finished the regular season 8-1 and atop the PFC standings, would amass 414 yards net offence, including 192 along the ground, in securing the win and first place. Fischer would score twice for Saskatoon, while teammate Joshua Ewanchyna rushed 12 times for 104 yards while Colin Stumborg would also score along the ground. Ryan Turple and Jason Price would pull in receiving TDs from quarterback Jared Adreychuk and James Vause would connect on two field goals to round out the Hilltops scoring.

In addition to Ritchott’s TD, the Rifles other major came on a scramble by QB Jonathan Remple. Penalties were an issue for Winnipeg, as they were flagged 13 times for 155 yards.
