Milt Stegall to be Added to Ring of Honour

WINNIPEG, MB., July 29, 2016 –   The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce Milt Stegall as the fourth inductee to the Ring of Honour presented by the Insurance Brokers of Manitoba (IBAM) at Investors Group Field.

An overwhelming popular vote with the fans, Stegall was one of the greatest players in Canadian Football League history. A nine-time CFL All-Star (1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007), he holds several CFL and Blue Bomber records, most notably his career touchdown total of 147. Stegall set a CFL record with 23 touchdowns in 2002, and that year was also named the league’s Most Outstanding Player. He became a household name in Winnipeg and is highly regarded in the community as one of the best to ever don the Blue & Gold.

“This means a lot to me,” said Stegall. “When people ask me, ‘What was the first thing you thought about when you got to Winnipeg?’ I’m very honest with them: my plan was to spend a couple years there, put up some numbers and then hopefully get back to the NFL. The way things turned out, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The fact that I spent 14 years there, the things that I did there and the way I was treated… everything that happened is a big part of the reason of where I am in my life now.”

Stegall was added to the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2007, he was presented the Tom Pate Award for ‘outstanding sportsmanship and who has made a significant contribution to his team, his community and the Association.’

“I was lucky to know Milt as a teammate and couldn’t be more proud to now add his name to the Ring of Honour,” said President & CEO Wade Miller. “His contribution not only to the team over the years, but to the community that still calls him one of their own exemplifies why Milt was an easy selection for this honour.”

This season’s inductees will be recognized with an unveiling ceremony at each regular season home game. Each following year, one more alumni will be added to the Blue Bombers Ring of Honour.
