Winnipeg Blue Bombers To Light Up Investors Group Field for World Mental Health Day

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are lighting up the South-East exterior of Investors Group Field in purple on October 10 for World Mental Health Day, in support of the Amanda Todd Legacy Project and Light Up Purple campaign. Each year the Light Up Purple campaign sees landmarks across the world illuminated in purple to show their solidarity in de-stigmatizing issues around mental illness, and support Amanda’s legacy by promoting discussions surrounding mental health, digital safety, cyberbullying and exploitation.

“We are honoured to have been asked to participate in this incredibly worthwhile campaign by the Amanda Todd Legacy project,” said Wade Miller, President & CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. “By joining the Light Up Purple campaign, Investors Group Field is helping to bring awareness to mental illness and the importance of mental health & wellness.”

The purple lights will be in place at 6:00 pm and visible all night. The interior of the stadium will be lit up from 6:30 pm until 10:00 pm.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have also launched an anti-bullying award for youth, created in memory of Samantha Mason, who was a victim of bullying in Winnipeg and ended her life in May of 2015. The Samantha Mason Friendship Award will recognize five youth who have taken action in their schools or communities to eliminate bullying.
