Bombers Sign Linebacker Sam Hurl

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed free agent National linebacker Sam Hurl. Hurl has spent the past three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, after being selected with the 12th overall pick in 2012.

Hurl (6-1, 225, Calgary,  April 26, 1990 in Calgary, Alberta) has played in 42 career games with the Riders, starting nine games at linebacker in 2014.  He finished 2014 with 36 tackles, 16 special teams tackles, one sack and two fumble recoveries.

“Sam is a strong Canadian presence who is a great special teams player, and someone who showed the ability to come in and start on defence as well,” said Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. “We have had him targeted for quite some time as someone we wanted in this organization.”

Hurl was named the Riders Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2012, racking up 17 tackles teams, while recording one sack and five defensive tackles.
