Blue Go Pink In October

For the fourth year in a row, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are supporting Manitoba breast cancer patients and the Keeping Abreast Fund at the Health Sciences Centre Foundation through their annual pink campaign.

With the tremendous support of the Blue & Gold faithful, the Bombers have donated more than $63,000 through the sales of pink merchandise at the Bomber Store and the Bomber Store online.

This year the trend continues with an exclusive offering of pink themed merchandise available now.

But it’s not just Bomber fans showing their support.  Offensive Lineman Andre Douglas says he and his teammates are proud to stand up and help back this important cause.

“Breast cancer isn’t just something that affects other people,” says Douglas. “As I have gotten older, I’ve realized how much it affects everyone. It could be your mother, grandmother, aunt, best friend, or your neighbor. Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate against anyone and it’s not gender specific. Breast cancer doesn’t care about your status in life.  A group of people banding together for a cause is a powerful force. I want to be part of the force that helps stop breast cancer.”

To that end, when the Blue Bombers host the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday, October 19th at 2:30pm at Investors Group Field, all players from both teams (along with coaches and officials) will wear pink themed items on the field.

The founder of the Keeping Abreast Fund, Jackie Stephen, says it’s thrilling to partner with the Winnipeg Football Club for such an important cause.

“The Keeping Abreast committee is proud to be the charity of the choice for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ Blue Goes Pink campaign,” says Stephen.  “ With tremendous support from the Bombers’ organization and their amazing fans, as well as many others in our community, the Keeping Abreast Fund has raised more than $1.2 million in six years, in support of Manitoba women with breast cancer! For this, we say thank you.”
