
Jamie Barresi accepted the job as the club’s offensive coordinator on February 12, 2010 and is entering his 7th season as a coach in the CFL. Barresi has spent the past two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
He joined the Riders in 2008 as the running backs coach, and Saskatchewan’s Wes Cates finished second in league rushing with 1,229 yards and 12 touchdowns (tops in the CFL). Last season he turned his focus and expertise to the quarterbacks. Under Barresi’s guidance, pivot Darian Durant was 4th in the league in passing with 4,348 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2009, leading the Riders to the Grey Cup championship game. Barresi was instrumental in the development of Durant over the 2009 season.
Prior to joining Saskatchewan, Barresi spent two seasons with the B.C. Lions. In 2007, Barresi took over coaching the Lions' receivers, which boasted the league’s top pass catcher in Geroy Simon, who hauled in 72 receptions for 1,293 yards and six touchdowns. Jason Clermont, another one of Barresi’s troops, finished 2007 with 1,158 yards receiving. In 2006 he worked with the team’s outstanding running back Joe Smith.
Barresi came into the CFL in 2004 where he served as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive coordinator for two seasons. In his first season, quarterback Danny McManus threw for over 5000 yards and 29 touchdowns. Barresi’s 2004 offence was home to the league’s top rusher –Troy Davis – who rushed for 1,628 yards and ten touchdowns. His offence finished the season third in total offensive yards (7,287) and third in yards per game (404.8).
Before entering the CFL coaching ranks, Barresi spent three seasons as the quarterbacks coach at the University of Central Florida. Prior to that, Barresi spent eight years as an assistant at Wake Forest where he served various roles which included coaching the wide receivers, quarterbacks and acting as the pass game coordinator.
Barresi also served two stints at Penn State including the title of wide receivers coach from 1988-1992. Prior to that, he coached the wide receivers at the University of Florida in 1986 and 1987.
He began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Ottawa, where he played quarterback. He served as an assistant coach from 1981-1983, before going to Penn State as an assistant under legendary coach Joe Paterno at Penn State from 1984-1985.
Barresi earned his undergraduate degrees from Ottawa in Kinanthropology in 1980 and Education in 1981. He earned his Master’s degrees from Penn State and Florida in 1987. Barresi earned his doctorate in exercise and sports science from Penn State in 1993.
