Special Teams Coordinator
Craig Dickenson enters his first season as the Blue Bombers’ special teams coordinator, coming east from Regina where he spent the last two seasons in the same position with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Highly regarded for his special teams schemes, Dickenson’s units have always ranked near the top of the league and he is very highly regarded among his counterparts across the CFL. Prior to joining the Riders in 2011, Dickenson spent the 2010 season with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders as an assistant special teams coach. This was his second stint in the NFL after spending two years with the San Diego Chargers as a special teams assistant on former Blue Bomber Head Coach Mike Riley’s staff from 2000-2001. In 2001, the Chargers’ special teams finished third in the NFL in overall performance and led the league in kickoff return average, drive start and touchdowns scored.
Dickenson spent seven seasons with the Calgary Stampeders where he served as their special teams coordinator for five years after working with the running backs and receivers in his first two years. He also spent one season with the Montreal Alouettes as their running backs coach in 2003 before returning to the Stamps.
Dickenson’s coaching career began at his alma mater – the University of Montana – in 1995 when the Grizzlies captured the NCAA Division 1-AA National Championship. His work with the kickers and running backs earned him a position with Utah State where he coached prior to making the jump to the NFL.
As a player, Dickenson lettered at Montana as a kicker and punter and in 1991 and 1992, he earned All-Big Sky Conference academic honours, graduating in 1995 with a degree in history. He later earned a Master’s Degree in educational leadership in 1997.
Dickenson spends his offseasons in Montana and is the brother of Calgary’s offensive coordinator and former CFL quarterback, Dave.
