The Bombers showed no signs of intimidation in the opening minutes of the game against the league leading Alouettes. After stopping Montreal on their opening drive the Bombers were able to drive down the field on the strength of a Mike Renaud fake punt to opening the scoring six minutes into the first quarter with an Alexis Serna field goal.

The Als wouldn’t take long to answer right back though after a Larry Taylor kick return set them up right at mid field. From there Anthony Calvillo was able to hook up with Ben Cahoon three straight times to get them into the red zone before settling for a Damon Duval field goal to tie the game.

Special teams breaks would continue to go against the Bombers on the season as rookie running back was unable to hold on to the kick off, turning the ball over to Montreal. From there the Alouettes would convert on a third down to keep there drive alive and it paid off as Calvillo was able to connect with a wide open S.J. Green on a 14-yard touchdown pass to make the score 10-3 Als.

After nearly turning the ball over on the kickoff for the second straight time the Bombers were able to mount a good drive on the arm of Michael Bishop who completed passes to Adarius Bowman and Terrence Edwards, setting up a 43-yard Alexis Serna field goal.

Montreal would prove exactly why they are one of the most feared offensive teams in the league though on their first play following the Bomber field goal. Anthony Calvillo would hook up with Kerry Watkins and from there some brutal tackling on the part of the Bomber defense would result in a 71-yard Alouettes touchdown to make the score 17-6.

What looked like a promising start for the Bombers would evaporate quickly as the turnovers would continue to hurt them. Right after the Montreal touchdown Michael Bishop would have his pass picked off by Matthieu Proulx, setting the Als up in Winnipeg territory.

From there the Calvillo would hit Kerry Carter for a 25-yard touchdown pass, his third of the game and the Als second straight touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. The score putt them ahead 24-6 with 12:42 to go in the second quarter.

The turnover game would finally go the Bombers was though with eight minutes to go in the second quarter as Keyou Craver was able to intercept a long pass from Calvillo and return it into Montreal territory. But once again the Bombers were unable to put the ball in the end zone and would settle for a 44-yard Alexis Serna field goal, his third of the game, making it 24-9 Montreal.

The Als would be able to tack on a safety before sending the game into the half up 26-9.

The Bombers would start the second half in much the same way as the started the first with a drive that moved them deep into Montreal territory, but not into the end zone as they settled once again for a 30-yard Alexis Serna field goal, his fourth of the game.

Just when it looked like the Bombers may be gaining some momentum from a Jonathan Hefney interception, Michael Bishop scrambled on second down, but his fumble was recovered by the Als and returned down inside the Winnipeg ten yard line. It didn’t take long as Anthony Calvillo threw his fourth touchdown pass to Jamel Richardson, the score marked the third time Montreal was able to score on the first play from scrimmage. The touchdown put Montreal up 33-12 with 8 minutes to go in the third quarter.

Both defenses seemed to step up their game for the remainder of the third quarter as both teams were held scoreless.

Halfway through the fourth quarter Montreal looked as though they may threaten to end the scoring drought as their drive pushed all the way down to the Winnipeg one yard line. But the Bomber defense were able to dig in their heels and stop the Als on first and second down forcing them to settle for a field goal making the score 36-12.

From that point on Montreal was able to coast through the rest of the fourth quarter en route to a 39-12 win. The win puts the Als at a league best 6-1 on the season, while the Bombers drop to 2-5 and will head into B.C. next week to take on the Lions.
