Each week a Blue Bombers player will answer questions from fans. This week, receiver Jabari Arthur steps up to answer your questions.
Hey Jabari, where are you right now?
I am currently in Montréal Quebec.
What have you been up to this offseason?
This offseason I have been training and getting ready for next season, spending time with my family and loved ones. I also run a company with some friends called athletic academy, where we train football athletes
You were traded here in September; did you know much about the Blue Bombers?
I knew quite a bit about Winnipeg because I knew some players who were on the team before I came here.
What was it like being traded? Did it surprise you?
The trade did surprise me because I was injured and was trying to make a comeback.
How is your ankle doing, what was the hardest thing you had to deal with your move from Calgary?
My foot is coming along well; it will be good for next year. The hardest thing I had to deal with was packing all my stuff in my car and driving the whole distance, myself.
My question is about your perception of how our fans view you. Many expect or hope that you will be an impact player since you were the centerpiece of our trade with Calgary last year. Good luck in this coming season.
It's true not many fans know about me because I didn’t play last season. What they should know is that I am dedicated to my team and the city of Winnipeg and I will do my best for us to win, and have fun.
You’re a Canadian that played NCAA football, why did you choose that path?
I chose that path because of the opportunities that were presented at that time and I thought I would be the best path to get an education taken care on and to continue playing football.
What was it like playing at Akron?
It was an amazing experience going to school and playing football in a different country. Travelling and playing in all those stadiums and the friends I made along the way that accompanied all memories is enough to last a life time. I was blessed with that opportunity.
You won a Grey Cup with the Stamps in 2008, although you weren’t overly involved in the game, every piece of the puzzle helps. What was it like winning a Grey Cup in your first season?
Winning the grey cup in my first season playing in the CFL was unbelievable. We won the game in my home town of Montréal. It was the first time I played at home in six years. It was a great feeling to open up my career with, and I hope I will have the chance to do it again.
Jabari, you were in Kansas City’s training camp, can you tell us what some of the major differences are between the two leagues, both good and bad.
Football is football no matter where you play it, in both leagues everyone is competing and trying to get better. At Kansas City we might have stayed a bit longer at the stadium, but as a whole the CFL is a tighter knit community. The overall game play in the biggest difference. The number of downs and the size of the fields make both leagues distinct. As a receiver the waggle to the line was a big change.
You’re a big guy, 6’4 or so, what can fans look forward to in terms of how you play the game?
I am a competitor, so I will try to win every play. I will try to use my size as an advantage, weather it’s making a big block, or going deep, what ever my role is they can look forward to me trying to have an impact on the game and helping our team win.
Jabari, how much do you know the new coaching staff?
I am hoping to meet them all in person in the near future. I had the opportunity to talk to coach Lapolice over the phone. I have met our offensive coordinator Jamie Barresi when I played in college, and briefly at a banquet in Montréal.
How excited are you to get out there and finally see game action after the long season and offseason?
I am extremely excited for this upcoming season. Due to my injury which kept me out a great deal last season, I want to get back out there with my teammates and have some fun. Along with having a new coaching staff I am real excited to work with them, and win some games. I can’t remember being this amped to get back on the grid iron.
