BOMBERS SIGN QUARTERBACK STEVEN JYLES, RELEASE BISHOP | Winnipeg Blue Bombers
 
 

Jyles (6-0, 195, Louisiana at Monroe ‘05, DOB: Sept. 25, 1982 in Independence, LA) is entering his fifth season in the CFL and has spent the past two years in Saskatchewan with the Roughriders. Jyles dressed in all 18 regular season games last season, completing 25 of 40 passes 290 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed 24 times for 102 yards and four touchdowns. Jyles also dressed for the West Final and Grey Cup.

In 2008, Jyles dressed in all 18 regular season games and the West Semi-Final, and also started one game at quarterback. Jyles saw action in five games and completed 42 of 61 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns, while also tallying 14 carries for 114 yards.

Prior to joining the Riders, Jyles was in Edmonton for two seasons, primarily as a backup to Ricky Ray. The 27-year old dressed in 36 games and had completed 25 of 51 passes for 262 yards. He also recorded 87 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

“We’re very pleased to add depth to the quarterback position,” said head coach Paul LaPolice.

Prior to joining the CFL, Jyles played his college ball at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He left ULM holding every passing record in the school’s history. In 2005, Jyles was named the Sun Belt Conference's Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, while being selected to the first-team All-Sun Belt squad. He led the league in total offence and became the league's all-time leading passer and total offence leader. Jyles was also named MVP of the Magnolia Gridiron All-Star Game.

The Blue Bombers have also released quarterback Michael Bishop.
