Bombers Select Bisons Offensive Lineman Geoff Gray Eighth Overall

WINNIPEG, MB., May 7, 2017 –  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have selected University of Manitoba Bisons offensive lineman Geoff Gray with the eighth selection in the 2017 CFL Draft.

Gray (6-6, 310, Manitoba, August 11, 1994 in Winnipeg, MB) was named the Canada West Outstanding Down Lineman of the Year,  a Canadian university first-team all-star, as well as a Canada West all-star. He played in all 32 games with Manitoba (starting 30) as well six playoff games, playing both guard and tackle.

“Geoff Gray is a fantastic athlete who can play multiple position on the offensive line,” said Winnipeg Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. “Understandably, there is some risk involved with taking a player in his situation, however we feel with the status of our roster in terms of Canadian depth and Geoff’s talents, it’s something we feel comfortable with.”

Gray recently signed an agreement with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers.

“First of all, I want to thank Wade Miller, Kyle Walters and Coach O’Shea for selecting me eighth overall,” said Gray. “That in itself is truly an honour, and to be taken by my hometown team is really special to me. Obviously, right now my focus must be on being a Green Bay Packer, and continuing to work on my craft as we get closer to our training camp.  Having said that, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were my favourite team growing up, and if my football path brings me back to Winnipeg, I would be extremely grateful to be a member of the Blue Bombers.”
