He Wore It Well:

Tyrone Jones, LB 1983-87, 1989-91

The Blue Bombers have had some spectacular pass rushers dating back to the days of leather helmets, but nobody got after the quarterback more consistently – and let everyone know about it along the way – than Tyrone Jones. One of the CFL’s all-time best pass rushers, Jones – nicknamed ‘The Mouth that Roared’ – was also one of the league’s best trash talkers. He was part of two Grey Cup championship teams, setting a record with four sacks (since broken) in the 1984 game and, after spending part of the 1988-89 seasons with the Phoenix Cardinals, returned to help the club to the 1990 title. Jones remains the Bombers all-time sack leader with 98, 89 of them coming over a five-year stretch from 1983 to 1987.

Jones battled cancer for nearly three years after a tumor was found in his brain in 2005 and passed away in 2008 at the age of 46. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame four years later.

FYI:

Lou Mogul wore three different numbers during his days with the Winnipeg Football Club and we mentioned him at Number 14.

And Jim Foubister’s contributions are mentioned at Number 18.
