He Wore It Well:

Charles Roberts, RB, 2001-08

They called him ‘Blink’ – as in blink and you might miss him – and the diminutive Sacramento State product made an immediate impact upon his arrival. Roberts split time at the tailback position in his first year with Eric Blount and Troy Mills, but still led the team with 620 yards while pulling in 27 passes for another 288 yards. But he also made his mark as a rookie that year on special teams and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.

By the time he was traded, just after Labour Day in 2008 to B.C. for Joe Smith, Roberts had become the Bombers all-time leading rusher at 9.470 yards after leading the club in rushing for seven-straight seasons.

FYI:

Jack Jacobs is known primarily for wearing number 27.

Notable:

  • Lou Adelman was one of the Bombers first greats. He played for the Winnipeg Tammany Tigers from 1924-29 and then with the Winnipeg Football Club from 1930-37 and again in 1941, winning two Grey Cups. Adelman also served as the club’s manager after retiring in 1937-38 and 1945. He was among the first class inducted into the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame in its inception in 1984.
  • Darvin Adams signed with the Blue Bombers in 2015 and in his six seasons with the club before departing for Ottawa in free agency in 2022 posted two 1,000-yard campaigns and finished with 322 receptions for 4,667 yards and 38 touchdowns. His yardage total placed him in 10th place on the club’s all-time receiving yardage list before his departure.
