Rifles in Playoff Run

The Winnipeg Rifles know what is at stake when the Edmonton Huskies come to town this Saturday: a chance to stay in the playoff discussion.

Both the Rifles and Huskies are currently tied for fourth place – the final playoff spot – in the Prairie Football Conference with 3-5 records, just two points back of the third-place Calgary Colts.

Kickoff at Investors Group Field is 6 p.m.

The Rifles will need big games from two of their key offensive pieces in running back Michael Ritchott, who leads the Canadian Junior Football League in rushing, and quarterback Jamie Ybarra in order to have success against the Huskies.

Defensively, the Rifles will need to have a performance similar to last week’s win in Chilliwack.

“Despite poor weather conditions in Chilliwack, we played very well with 425 yards in offence while holding Chilliwack to less than 110 yards,” said Rifles coach Geordie Wilson.

“I expect this week’s game against the Huskies will be a barn burner as both teams need the win if they want to improve their chances of getting to post season. We want to be ahead of them in the standings as we head into the final few games of the season.”

Individual game day tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations and Ticketmaster online. Gates open at 5 p.m. and fans are asked to enter through the Bomber store. Rifles fans are reminded if they can’t make the game, they can still catch all the action online at riflesfootball.com
