WINNIPEG, MB. – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are pleased to announce the unveiling of a Ring of Honour at Investors Group Field at their home opener on June 24th.

The Blue Bombers Ring of Honour presented by the Insurance Brokers of Manitoba (IBAM) will see the Winnipeg Football Club pay tribute to the best of the many legends who have worn the Blue and Gold uniform.

The list is long of Blue Bombers outstanding alumni worthy of a place on the Ring of Honour, and the first name to be added belongs to the legendary Chris Walby.

A member of both the Blue Bombers and Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Walby was a nine-time CFL All-Star, a three-time Grey Cup champion, and was twice named the CFL Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

“This is such an honour and it fills me with a tremendous sense of pride,” said Walby. “I just feel lucky to have played my career in this town, to play 16 years here, be a part of three Grey Cup teams and to have suited up with a lot of great players.

“And to be the first guy to be selected for the Ring of Honour is very special.”

The Blue Bombers Ring of Honour was made possible by the support of Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba.

“On behalf of our entire association, we are proud to support the Winnipeg Football Club as they honour the outstanding players of the Blue Bombers” said David Schioler, the CEO of Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba.

The Blue Bombers are continuing to call on fans to help select the first nine additions to the Ring of Honour through the online voting system at bombersfanzone.com/ring_of_honour. Fan input, in combination with guidance from the Blue Bombers’ history and recognition committee, will help determine the next eight players selected this year.

Each following year, one more alumni will be added to the Blue Bombers Ring of Honour. This season’s inductees will be recognized with an unveiling ceremony at each regular season home game.

“The Blue Bombers Ring of Honour is a way for our organization to recognize some of the Bomber greats and legends who have played for the Blue and Gold over the years,” said Wade Miller, Blue Bombers President & CEO. “The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have an incredibly rich history and it’s important for us to continue to celebrate and honour that with our fans.”

The Blue Bombers Ring of Honour will be added just above the suites on the 200 level facing out into the stadium.

The 2016 Blue Bomber season kicks off with the first preseason game at Investors Group Field next Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m.  The home opener is June 24th and tickets for both games are available at bluebombers.com/tickets/.
