Blue Bombers continue to finalize training camp roster

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continue to finalizer their training camp roster with the additions of import defensive linemen Zach Anderson and Marcus Hyde, along with import defensive backs Lamar ‘Marty’ Markett, Wesley Pendleton and Sam Pope.  All five players will be on the field once rookie camp begins this afternoon.

Anderson (6-2, 270, Northern Michigan, DOB: January 27, 1990 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan) was named first team All-GLIAC as a senior after finishing the season with 40 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.  He had a tryout with the Cleveland Browns earlier this year.

Hyde (6-3, 242, William & Mary, DOB: October 24, 1988 in Manassas, Virginia) was claimed off waivers from the BC Lions earlier this month after finishing his collegiate career with 144 tackles and 18.5 sacks.  A two-time All-Conference selection, Hyde’s 6.5 sacks as a senior ranked tied for third in the league, while his 4.7 tackles per game ranked sixth among defensive linemen.

Markett (5-10, 162, South Carolina, DOB: September 7, 1989 in York, South Carolina) attended training camp with the Atlanta Falcons last season and recorded three tackles throughout the preseason before being among the team’s final cuts.  A walk-on at South Carolina, Markett earned playing time on special teams before becoming a key member of the defence as a senior, recording 26 tackles and one pass knockdown.

Pendleton (5-11, 180, Mississippi, DOB: November 29, 1989 in Natchez, Mississippi) played in 20 games with 16 starts at cornerback in two seasons at Ole Miss after transferring from Copiah-Lincoln Junior College where he was named first team All-State and the MACJC’s Most Valuable Defensive Back on top of being named a Junior College All-American.  At Ole Miss, Pendleton recorded 19 tackles, one tackle for loss and six pass knockdowns.

Pope (6-0, 192, Hampton, DOB: October 21, 1987 in St. Helena Island, South Carolina) attended training camp with the Montreal Alouettes in 2010 and the BC Lions in 2012 before joining the practice roster of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last October.  At Hampton, Pope recorded 66 tackles and five interceptions in two seasons.

The team also announced that Saint Mary’s University quarterback Ben Rossong will participate in the team’s training camp.

Rossong sat out last season after transferring to Saint Mary’s from Western where he threw for 576 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons.

The Blue Bombers have released import offensive lineman James Carmon.
